Story
In 1949, the Bonnier publishing house launched a competition seeking an expandable bookshelf for its Bonniers Folkbibliotek book series . Nisse and Kajsa Strinning submitted their proposal, which was a further development of Nisse Strinning's slightly older Elfa dish drainer . The shelf, which became known as String, won the competition. It was subsequently exhibited at the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg in 1955. The shelf became a widespread everyday object in the 1960s.
