Story
The “Arkipelago” candle holder by Timo Sarpaneva is a striking example of Finnish glass design from the post-war modern period. Designed in the 1950s/60s, the object combines a reduced, material-focused design language with the clarity typical of Scandinavian design.
The massive glass body possesses a calm, almost archaic presence, which develops from transparency, light refraction and clear geometry.
The changing light creates subtle reflections and a sense of depth in the landscape, reminiscent of ice formations on rocky coasts – a poetic reference to Nordic nature.
